This was a beautiful, though half hidden fast stop right behind the eccles theater and city creek mall. the service window person was very friendly and patient with all our asking, even if we have ordered from the wrong menu (the paper menu listed in the photos of the previous reviews is no longer up to date). we have the mildly flavored every product we have tried so that we can get the full taste, and it is really good. the sauce makes it, however, ask for pb sauce and hot honey sauce if they wish the full service experience. a combo plus an additional page is a lot of food for two people, so no fear to share. we will definitely stop here if we are too foot in slc. it's hard to come with the car, just a head up.
My son and I stopped by Pretty Bird to check out their fried chicken sandwiches and they didn't disappoint. The fried chicken thigh sandwiches are moist, tender and can be prepared from mild to very hot. They're dressed with slaw, pickles and pretty bird sauce. The most pleasant surprise for me was were the crinkle cut fries whose crispy goodness was among the best I've ever had. The downtown location is an order online only spot. There's some seating outside the window which is no-frills and can be chilly depending on time of year so dress accordingly. Enjoy!
Pretty Bird is hands-down the best fried chicken place in Utah. I highly recommend the chicken sando. Just be careful when selecting your spice level, because the hot bottom level really does deliver a kick of heat (which can be hard to find in this state). Besides having amazing fried chicken, they also serve up delicious sides to pair with your chicken. But be advised, the downtown location is now take out only and no longer offers dine-in options.
Sometimes you have to try something two (or more) times to make sure it legitimately was the same tasty magic as the first time. It has been 13 days since my first visit to Pretty Bird and I can say that the sandwich was even BETTER the second time. Viet has created this great little space in the middle of downtown Salt Lake and has perfected the food, which makes it even more special. The slaw, the sauce, the locally sourced bread, the pickles, the amazing crisp of the chicken breading, and the amount of heat (yes, I did the Hot behind) was perfection. I am now a dark meat convert thanks to this chicken. The wait is going to be long and they will sell out quickly! Be patient because this chicken is so worth the wait! We are super lucky to have a chef like Viet in our town.
