Avaliação da contribuiçãoBoth food and service were disappointing. We went for the SF restaurant week and had two $75 tasting menu. It was a bit overpriced as the set only had one entree, with two tiny sides, bread salad. The biggest issue was everything being too salty, from the bread, the fish, the beef, to the dessert. I couldn't even finish the salted vanilla ice cream because there was way too much sea salt.? I actually liked how the dishes are designed and cooked. It's just the salty taste that ruined everything. The server was not attentive at all. No one cared to refill your water or bring you your next course. Even if they fixed the taste of their food, I still wouldn't come back because of the poor service. Btw, it's located in a very dangerous neighborhood. You wouldn't want to walk on the streets.
My friend and I had dined at Gibson a few times prior to the pandemic and we were generally pleased with the food, service, and ambience. This review will address our first intra pandemic visit to this restaurant. Although I would have given Gibson 5 stars, based on the tasting menu, the wait staff, the location close to several downtown theaters, and our pre pandemic experiences here, I am deeply disturbed by the lack of response of Gibson 's management, a fact that completely overwhelmed my positive views of this restaurant. I waited three months before writing this review, in the hope that someone from Gibson would get back to me. I 'm still waiting. When I made a reservation for two at Gibson during SF Restaurant Week in Autumn 2021, I had to pay $20 per guest to hold the spot. No problem there. However, the reservation website indicated that this amount $40 total would be applied as a credit to our bill. Not only was the $40 not credited that evening, but I tried to reach the restaurant 's management by phone 3 times in the subsequent two weeks and succeeded only in leaving voicemails, to which I never received a response. While I fully understand that restaurants have been under enormous financial pressure during the pandemic, scamming customers with a refundable reservation charge that is never refunded and not returning your guests ' calls about correcting this scam are unacceptable behaviors unworthy of an otherwise fine downtown SF restaurant.
$65 for the tasting menu....what a deal! Not a dud among the dishes. Tell your server what you definitely want to eat, and the chef will make sure you get it as part of your tasting menu. My favorite dish was the roasted carrot with pickled carrot and pine nuts. ? Food is fine dining but the service isn?t. Wine list with French and American wines. Beautiful restaurant with an open kitchen....will def ask for a table with a view into the kitchen next time!
My husband and I had a wonderful dining experience while in the city on our honeymoon. Chef Jonathan went above and beyond to accommodate my strict dietary needs related to my autoimmune disease by creating a special tasting menu. The meal was absolutely fantastic, which is rare for me due to my restrictions. I was impressed by Chef Jonathan's talent and we will definitely return if we find ourselves in the city again.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The food is incredibly delicious and the service is top-notch.
