Avaliação da contribuiçãoThe gringas here are absolutely divine! I suggest pairing with the second hottest salsa (the wait staff will explain). Best food I’ve had in Mexico so far. These cochinita pibil gringas are NOT to be missed! 25 pesos each.
We ate here several times and it was delicious. They only serve one local speciality cochinita pibil, (which they do really well) with tortillas and other options. The cafe is clean and bright, central with friendly service. Would definitely recommend!!!
This is a very cute little place, they have a limited menu on the wall, but it’s great! Tacos, sandwiches, etc all just one filling but the food is fast, the waitress is friendly and the place is nice! The tacos were better than those in fancier places too!
I have eaten here a few times and the food is always good. A small menu that will help your dollars/pesos go a lot farther. 1 kg of pilbil with all the extras at 280 pesos can last for a couple of days. It's a cozy place to enjoy a quick meal!!
Achiote is a restaurant that specializes in cochinita pibil. Cochinita pibil is a type of taco that originated in the Yucatan Peninsula. The famous black pigs are cooked under Earth until the meat is extremely soft and tender. Achiote is one of the few places in San Cristobal that specializes in cochinita pibil. You can get the cochinita pibil in a couple of varieties. As a torta, taco, gordita and perhaps a couple other options. The beverage list is also very simple you have your regular sodas as well as horchata and Jamaica. Jamaica is more like a iced tea made with hibiscus leaves. I asked my server if the pigs used were the famous black pigs from the Yucatan and she said no. The famous black pigs are very traditional to cochinita pibil. And if you're not using the black pigs you're not getting an authentic product. I also doubt that the pork served here is cooked in the same fashion. Meaning that I don't think anyone in San Cristobal is cooking the pigs underground like they do in the Yucatan. With that said the tacos here were okay. Definitely nothing to write home about. But I would not go here for tacos considering there's no other options other than cochinita. If you want to truly experience cochinita pibil then make a trip to the Yucatan and go all out.
