If you think of Italian restaurants pretty much everywhere some 20 to 30 odd years ago, they still exist in this town ; I have visited a handful of Italian locals here and, they are all pretty much the same. Huge menus with everything under the sun, slicked hair Italian waiters that think they are so charming and of course, piazza style al fresco places that caters for all sorts of people. Out of the lot, this place actually serves good food and, is slightly smaller. It's located in the square across the Kloster and there are three restaurants here that share the square, for outdoor seating. Look for the difference in furniture colour so you know which one is which ; Fabulous outdoor seating for warm days. The menu is quite extensive and I was told by a local this place served a good pizza and, had to try it. The side salad I had was simple and fresh but delicious. The pizza I had was also very nice thin crust and quite flavourful. I really enjoyed my meal. The coffee here was also quite ok. I would happily come here any day. It's good food, good service and priced reasonably. A good place for lunch or dinner in town.
Surrounded by the Basilika, the monastry and a lot of Fachwerk-houses you can dine in- or outdoors (in summer!). The food is very good and you can choose out of a long menu. The service is friendly and the rooms are comfortable.
We started frequenting Il Costello soon after our move from New York to Seligenstadt. After sampling several restaurants in the town, we settled upon Il Costello as "our restaurant".The menu is extensive (with seasonal variety) and the wine-list is reasonable (I wish they had a greater selection at the mid to high end). All of the food we have ever had has been very good and tasty (sometimes, they use too much salt). And it was interesting to discover they did not have a microwave in the kitchen. The service has always been outstanding, even when they didn't know us as well as they do now (one of the reasons it became "our restaurant"). And the "after dinner" choice of; Espresso, Ramazzotti, Grappa, or Gummy-Bears (which is "on the house") is a very nice touch. My personal favourite is the "wheel of cheese"... It's a pasta dish to die for... (see pic).... The "visit date" is our last visit - but we have been going for the past three years.
