Limited parking for really large catering events, so you can expect to park in the State Park (and pay). The attentive and sharp staff can carry out separate checks when you ask yourself. A complaint was that my fried oysters were very dried. Seems oil can also have needed a refreshment. I didn't point this to the server, so I don't know how it would have been resolved. Portion was decent for the price.
The porch fans were blowing full force, and we were cold. Our reserved table was ready with fresh flowers. Service was very friendly and very good. The catfish was awful! Sorry, but one small piece of hard crusty fish, was just not enough. Cold slaw was given as a side and customer never eats, cold slaw! Nothing else. The bread and butter was good. It was hard to believe, nothing else came with the fish.
This is my third time eating at the Deerhead, first time for easter brunch. I always enjoy my view from the lake side dining room. Brunch had many great options some things were great others i didnt care for. But im going to take a step back and tell you this restraunt had the best salad I have had in years, green greens! Fantastic topping selection and the perfect house dressing, dont change a thing. Happy to see an omelette bar wish there was crepes too.
The wife and I went for a wine and food pairing. The wine was Heron Hill and the food was not off the Deerhead 's usual menu. Both were excellent. (Not to say the regular menu isn 't yummy also) Definitely a restaurant I would like to frequent more often. The wife and I have been going to brunch at the Deerhead every Sunday for weeks now. We only have 2 more items to try on the menu. It 's been great fun with our server Amanda, being 'regular ' customers for a month or so. The menu is really good with all the selections being delicious and well put together. It feels good patronising the Deerhead, because it is one of the best local restaurants. Or maybe it 's just the Mimosas talking, which are pretty strong, thank you very much.
To note off the start I plan to go back and give it a second try. I had a $28 dollar prime rib that was supposed to be king cut. It was small and cooked to order I guess on a grill. Not recommended. My wife got a special and sent it back. The special was supposed to be seafood and pasta, with mussels, clams, shrimp, salmon...well it had tiny shrimp from a can, the smallest things you have ever seen. No clams...or salmon after she complained she was told they ran out...of clams and salmon, however they were still selling the special. It was disappointing and why wouldn't they say something first? It's the first time I have seen this women ever send anything back. On the plus sides... Amazing location, view to die for. The salad bar was great very clean and fresh. We didnt really get time to enjoy it because about a minute after we sat down with our salads our entrees arrived. Just was not enjoyable was very rushed and besides the salad bar not very good. Oh and I dont recommend the steak fries. I do want to like this restaurant, I have liked it in the past and known it most of my life. I will return and give it another chance, maybe a burger.
