On a chilly Tuesday night, I met up with three friends. We hadn't made a reservation, but luckily there was space for us near the fire. There were a few locals and one of them was playing music by The Rolling Stones. I like the Stones, but it was too loud to have a conversation. One of my friends politely asked the landlord to turn it down, which he did. However, as the night went on, the pub felt colder. Only one of the three open fires was burning at the far end of the room. My friend suggested we move closer to the fire as I was freezing. I even ended up giving away my warm parka to stay warm. By 9:30pm, we were the only ones left in the pub. It seemed like the logs in the fire were not burning properly. Despite the cold, we were enjoying ourselves and I went to the bar at 10:14pm to buy one last round of drinks, thinking that the pub might be closing soon. The beer and wine were both fine, but the atmosphere felt a bit lacking. I hope it was just an off night and that the pub will go back to its charming ways. It reminded me of the book "Bleak House" - full of memories from happier times in the past.
My wife, friend, and I enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast lunch at this restaurant. The roast was nicely cooked and presented, and the portion size was fair. I opted for the full monty, which included roast pork, beef, and lamb with a side of heavenly gravy. The roasted juices were delicious, and we finished off our meal with a chocolate fondant and a refreshing pint of Doombar ale. Overall, the large traditional menu offered a delightful old-world dining experience.
Let me set the scene: It was a quiet Saturday morning and as I reminisced about the day before, I was suddenly awakened by a rumble in my stomach. After exploring my options, I stumbled upon a family-run Italian pizzeria called Pizza Gogo (similar to Pizza Nono). My favorite pizza was something more than just a deep pan pizza - it was Ye Olde George Inn, my ultimate favorite. Excited, I put on my hiking shoes and embarked on a culinary pilgrimage to my favorite spot. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. I ordered my go-to meal - a juicy burger - and eagerly awaited its arrival. When the burger finally arrived, the aroma filled the air and my trip down memory lane began. I was transported back in time, ready to savor every bite.
