Avaliação da contribuiçãoWe dined at this restaurant on a Thursday evening. Upon arrival, we noticed that there was nobody there and the owner was chatting with his neighbor next door. He eventually came in with a sandwich in hand and casually greeted us while eating in front of us. We found it to be a bit too casual for our liking. Unfortunately, some dishes we inquired about were not available, as they were soon to be removed from the menu. The food we did receive was not good, with everything tasting similar and served in a thick, salty sauce with pan-fried onion, zucchini, and bell peppers. We ordered two Red Stripe beers, which were decent, but they were just placed in front of us without a glass. Overall, we found this restaurant to be disorganized and reminiscent of the chaotic dining experience at Faulty Towers in Southport.
My partner and I eyed up this restaurant as we travelled down the Gold Coast and were glad we came back to it. The waiter/owner is super friendly and goes out of his way to have a chat and talk about the menu. The coconut bread to start is delicious and I'd love the recipe! My fish curry was so amazing and unlike any curry I've had before I love that the fish was chunky and fresh and plenty of veg mixed in to the amazing coconut sauce. Jerk chicken and rice looked good, only thought is that the prices are slightly higher than the meals are worth. Overall if you want homecooked Jamaican food then head here but it is nothing too fancy, just good tasty food. The restaurant is decorated a bit over the top with flashing lights, posters, loud music and Jamaican memorabilia, hard to miss when walking past!
Let's not beat around the bush - there was nothing good about my experience at this restaurant. The service was terrible (I suspect the waitress may have been under the influence) and the food was a wet, sloppy, and tasteless disaster. As someone from Melbourne, I am used to high-quality, affordable food. Anyone who thinks this is a decent meal must be out of their mind. The prices were ridiculous and the ambiance was unappealing. Save your time and money. I will never be returning.
Expensive, shady, and awkward would sum up the experience pretty well. Myself and two others were first greeted into a quiet, yet friendly atmosphere, but upon sitting down things just turned awkward. We were having a look at the menu which had things like usan bolt chicken and Bob Marley Chicken without any sort of description, but ridiculous prices, and the owner not offering any advice. He managed to stand there and kind of order for us, because from what i can gather, every meal is essentially the same thing....and having spent a substantial amount of time in Jamaica myself, let me tell you, it wasn 't too authentically Jamaican. The food was alright, however i think it came from a series of packaged products not much work involved in prep at all. When it came time to pay, the owner became quite shifty when he announced the price, and did so under his breath. I thought something was amiss, but wasn 't quite sure, though after checking their site, I now realise he charged nearly $20 over what his menu said. which was not worth it at all. I 'm disappointed to say the least, but not surprised. I guess what needs to be done for the future is just honesty Honesty on the menu, honesty on prices, and honesty to the customer.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is a good place to have a meal. Despite the Jamaican theme, I really enjoyed the music. I'm not Jamaican myself, but I love trying different cultural foods, so this is a great place to visit if you haven't experienced Jamaican cuisine before.
