Good food, scoop of chips is not what it used to be size wise. Scallops were done to death. Fish of the day (elephant fish) was good, other fish was pricey for the size.
The chips were good, the fish was good but the steak burger was an absolute let down. A lettuce, a tomato and a wee few pieces of steak.
Wow, I enjoyed these gluten-free fish and chips from Le Cren Takeaway. Number two on my Favs list.
I appreciate their patience in explaining what flour and oil were used in gluten free menu via a call. I don’t mean to be rude and I hope this doesn’t dishearten them, but I strongly believed this can be taken as a feedback to improve. To be honest, this is by far the worst gluten free fish chips I’ve ever had in NZ. Overall it tasted like some overnight or straight out of freezer. The chips were inconsistent and oily, the fish was incredibly hard and bland. Usually other fish chips my fork couldn’t hold the fish because it’s crispy outside but soft inside. For this, i can easily just ‘carry’ the fish with my fork and even swing it no joke. It was just........hard. I couldn’t finish it. I’m not sure what went wrong in their recipe or method but I think maybe they should go out and try other stalls to get some references? I’ve the best gf fish chips at Queenstown Erik’s fish chip and they are coeliac friendly. Hope this can bring some improvement for your GF menu. All the best!
