Avaliação da contribuiçãoMother's Day we had an excellent meal, good service and the 5 mothers sitting on our table were presented with a flower arrangement with good wish for Mother's Day and a thank you for the choice of doc's diner....as beautiful this is....we will be sure to go back there.
Every time we come home, from ontario we have potluck! the staff is great and eating is great!
Docs is now Kellis and our meal was wonderful. Fresh pan roasted cod! All right. The staff just closed when we arrived because of the storm, but they offered to turn the grill back for a few take-off cows. Oh, my God, it was delish! So fresh (only caught yesterday). Thank you, ladies.
Stop here for lunch while waiting for SPM ferry.it is near the terminal .friendly staff. The homemade pommes were the best of all time
Once you start reading this review, you are probably going to think to yourself that I’m just some guy who likes to complain about absolutely everything, and it couldn’t possibly have been that bad. I assure you that every word of this is absolutely true,...and with no embellishments. My wife and I recently visited Newfoundland and spent a night in the area of Fortune, since we were catching the ferry the next day from Fortune to St. Pierre. We had wanted to have some seafood for dinner, so the owner of the bed and breakfast where we were staying suggested we try Doc’s Diner in Fortune. Based on the number of tables in the diner, it appeared that it had a seating capacity of 40-50 people. The restaurant was fairly full when we got there, with maybe 35 guests. The clients all appeared to be in the age ranges of mid 50’s to late 70’s, with one table that had some younger adults with 3 children. Overall this was not a high maintenance, demanding group of customers in the restaurant. My wife and were seated and after a longer than normal wait the server came to take our orders. We each ordered fish and chips (the only seafood on the menu) and a couple of iced teas. The server returned shortly with our drinks and passed our food order on to the kitchen. In the meantime, a couple of older ladies had entered the restaurant at about the same time as we had come in and placed their orders as well. After waiting about 45 or 50 minutes neither my wife and I nor these ladies had received our food. These ladies decided to get the server’s attention and told her that they could not wait any longer and were leaving to go eat somewhere else. I assume the server then went to convey that information to the kitchen. A few minutes later the owner/manager came charging out of the kitchen with fish breading on her hands and ran to the front of the restaurant asking where these people were and looking out the front door to see if she could spot them. They were already gone, so she muttered something to herself and returned to the kitchen. Another 10 or 15 minutes then passed, and my wife and I had still not received our food. Now it had been over an hour since we had ordered. We motioned to the server and asked her how much longer she thought it would be before we got our food. She apologized for the long wait, advised us that they were “extremely busy” that night, and that she hoped it would not be too much longer. We said okay and continued to wait. Several minutes later the owner/manager came out of the kitchen again and approached our table. We assumed she was going to provide further assurances that our food would be out shortly. She did not. She proceeded to tell us in an aggressive tone of voice that “my server has already explained to you that we are very busy, so you will just have to wait. Other people ahead of you are waiting without complaining, so you should too”. My wife then responded that if she was going to take that approach with us, that we were not going to stay, and said to bring us the bill for the two iced teas. The owner then responded by telling us, “your fish is already in the pan being cooked, so I don’t care if you eat it or not, you are still paying for it.”. At that point we should have just walked out, however we were very hungry and had waited so long that we did not want to have to start all over again at some other restaurant. After a little longer, the meals came. The food itself was nothing special. Mediocre at best. When it came time to pay for our meals, my wife said she would wait outside at the car while I took the bill to the front counter. After our server rang up our purchase, I then asked her if I could speak to her manager. The owner/manager came out of the kitchen to the front. I informed her that my wife and I were not pleased with the rude attitude and lack of respect for her customers that she showed at the table when she came out to speak to us, and that since my wife is a travel agent, she would most certainly be sharing this experience with her clients and colleagues. Before I could even finish speaking, the owner/manager interrupted me and said, “Yup, mmm hmm, yeah, well with over 27 years in the customer service business, I know how to treat my customers. Besides, first those people at that table (the two ladies that left earlier) rip into my server and make her cry (they did not, by the way; they were very soft spoken and only advised her that they didn’t want to wait any longer for their food), and then you and your wife decide to attack my server too.” I responded by saying, “We did not attack your server. We were nothing but nice to her, and she was very pleasant and polite to us. The issue is not with her. The issue is with your rude attitude and lack of respect for us as customers”. She then interrupted me again and said that she didn’t have to listen to this and started to walk away. I then said, “So you are just going to walk away while someone is trying to speak with you”. She turned and said; “That’s because I can, and I will”. I responded by saying, “My case in point. You just continue to be rude to me.” She then came back over and with a raised voice said, “I want you to leave my restaurant right now! Otherwise I am going to call my husband to come down here and throw you out!” At that point I probably should have called the RCMP given the implied threat of physical violence, but I just decided to leave and told her that I was amazed by her unlimited bad attitude. I also asked her for her name, which she refused to give me, however her business card on the front counter says her name is Cecily Strickland. As I wrote at the beginning, this sounds like a work of fiction, but I promise you every word of it is true. Needless to say, I do not recommend eating at Doc's Diner in Fortune, NL. I would give this a zero review however the system made me pick at least one dot.
