I found some neighbors and friends, and we ended up having a great dinner sitting on the side of the road, just enjoying the spontaneous vibe that Venice offers. That's the essence of Venice for you—we just go with the flow because, why not?
My visit to First Fridays in February was a refreshing reminder of better times. On that day, I faced typical yet trivial dilemmas: Would I reach the coast in time for the sunset? Would my phone battery last? And could I possibly eat that delectable-looking plant-based meat from Original Herbivore after enjoying real ribs from Scroggins Smokehouse and other delights? It felt like it was time to head back to the hotel after those amazing ribs, but the enticing image of the Reuben sandwich with faux pastrami was hard to resist. I appreciated the little details at First Fridays—the palm trees at dusk created a cinematic atmosphere, and striking up conversations with strangers felt much easier than it does in NYC. I even had some lively discussions reminiscent of Guy Fieri's style. Although it may be a while before I board another plane, I am grateful for the experience that First Fridays offers, along with its creative vendors and food-loving crowds, all contributing to a classic California vibe.
I visited for the first time in October with my friends, and I absolutely loved it! Venice has crafted a fantastic atmosphere for everyone to enjoy their Friday night. You can savor a variety of delicious food from some really awesome food trucks. The vibe is welcoming, and everyone seems happy as they dig into their tasty meals. It’s truly a win-win situation! And don’t forget to arrive before sunset to capture some amazing pictures!
Abbott Kinney rocks every month. On the first Friday of every month, shops and galleries open their doors to drink/eat complimentary wine/h'orderves and show their merchandise/art. It gets crowded too, so arrive early (before 5pm) to score prkg. My fave shops to visit, and furniture stores (like Knibb Design) and galleries (like G2) open their doors for an open public soiree. There is live music at some shops, artists at others ... everyone mingles and parties. I even had a fun time @Trim, a hair salon! W. 3rd St should do this more often.
Overwhelmed with this First Friday of the month food truck street thang. Boyfriend and I were just hanging around Venice beach until it was dinner time. Drove down Abbot and saw a bunch of trucks and a hell of people. We both had no idea what was going on but we stopped by anyways. Parking sucked at 6 because people were getting off work and also, it was dinner time. On abbot, there's a few restaurants that are opened for those who weren't interested in street trucks so don't worry if none of the trucks look good. As we got to one of the trucks, we asked some guy who was in line what's this trucks about? Every first Friday of the month, trucks come out. Made a lot of sense to us after. We tried the White Rabbit food truck which was Filipino taco truck. It wasn't too bad. 3 tacos for $4? Sauce was tasty though. Next month noted, check it out again when we are not full. Some trucks accept card but bring cash just in case!
