I had a super fantastic lunch here. The presentation is a work of art and tasted every bit as good as it looked! So glad this sushi restaurant survived the Covid pandemic as it would have been a shame to lose such edible art. Although not quite the sameatmosphere as the previous location, the location on Quadra is far more family friendly with direct access parking availableacross the street. I would like to see more options that don't have the spicy volcano sauce. Not everyone likes spicyeverything, even if it was offered as optional to have non-spicy and more roe options as well. I love that this restaurantoffers wild seafood and real crab, you just have to ask.
The ramen's soup is tasteless and not hot. Noodles texture are good except the meats and egg. The meats and egg are cold too. This is my first time having ramen which is not up to the ramen standard. Their Sushi is okay, but not great.
New owners? A new family? First of all, I want to preference that this is a family run restaurant of new comers. I admire their spirit and if you don't mind food that is not authentic please support them. Looking at the photos from other patrons I'mnot sure I was in the same restaurant. Despite what the menu said. They seemed more focused on a take out business. Afterbeing seated I waited maybe ten or so minutes before my order was taken... then thirty minutes for my chirashi to arrive...which is just rice and sashimi on top. Okay now about the food. It wasn't authentic Japanese. The rice suffered from theGoldie-lox effect. Parts had too much vinegar or not enough or was just right. My guess is the rice wasn't mixed enough whileadding the vinegar. However the texture was good and consistent. Now the sashimi. The scallop was the star. It wasdelicious and I wanted more. Often scallops don't taste as fresh. The rest of the sashimi was fine, it was cut right. However, I found the tomago off. It tasted like a Chinese egg tart. I love Chinese egg tarts but tomago is far from that. This is a sign that the egg was cooked too fast and dashi was not used. Oh also the wasbi was very watery. I've never seenthis before and do not know what to contribute that from.
Chiba is consistently a great choice for sushi with their Dynamite Roll, California Roll, and Nabeyaki Udon noodle soup. The food is delicious and the staff is polite and helpful with ordering. They provide a tasty soybean sauce for rice that is similar to Japanese village rice sauce. Whether dining in or taking out, customers are offered a nice cup of tea.
