The poppadom was stale and tasted like it had been fried a few hours earlier and although I asked for my beef rendang medium hot, there was barely any heat to it at all. Saving grace was the side salad which was zesty and very tasty.
A very warm and friendly couple, Brian Loo and Mandy, in Auckland, New Zealand. The food is delicious. A must visit whenever you are in Auckland.
Most Generous portions!!! Friendly, fantastic and excellent service! Great experience!! Would definitely be back for more!!!
So far, this is the best nasi lemak with chicken curry I've had in Auckland. The first mouthful of the rice was so fragrant and flavourful. The papadum was a little bit soft but overall, the whole meal was a pleasant experience. The chicken was not dry and the curry was not too oily. Plus, they serve the original teh tarik (pulled tea) that has buah pala (nutmeg). It is so rare to find in Malaysia itself, yet I can have this anytime in Auckland! It's like a perfect blend between a mamak and a kopitiam with delicious Malay, Indian and Chinese food. Malaysians would know that food would be a little bit greasier because this is exactly how they are made! So those who are expecting ungreasy and super healthy food, I'd suggest you try another restaurant. Keep in mind that Bintang Wok is part of a food court. Hence, you cannot compare it's standards with the other Malaysian restaurants and should evaluate it as a food court stall. The lady who served us was very kind and smiley. She would joke with us and made sure we were well served. My applause to the chef and owners of Bintang Wok.
Tried this place a few months ago on two occasions. Staff was always friendly and welcoming. The first time we tried the nasi goreng which quite greasy with more of a soy sauce flavour. The second time we had the roti canai with chicken curry as well as the chicken curry laksa. We were very unimpressed. The roti canai was not freshly made. Instead it was the frozen Kawan branded roti canai, the flavour and texture being exactly the same. The chicken curry had a very thick layer of oil with very little flavour of chicken or curry. Sadly, the same chicken curry was used for the curry laksa, however, more diluted. Let's just say our stomachs did not like the meal either for the next few days, and we will not be returning.
