Avaliação da contribuiçãoGreat restaurant full of locals with great local food, good cheer, and warm hospitality by the owner Regula. Appenzell is a bit of a tourist Mecca/trap so it was fantastic to find something real in the other worldly environment.
Very good food. Can get busy at lunch so expect to share a table, which is the best way to interact with locals! True to the reviews, service takes a while but is worth the wait.
It was recommended that we eat here by a few friends that we traveling with. Six of us stopped in for dinner and we were not disappointed. The owner, Regula Dorig, is also the hostess, waitress and cook (if not too busy) she spoke...English and had a good sense of humor. We started by ordering a bottle of wine. She asked the gentleman at our table to taste and he passed and told her we will be very happy with the wine. She advised No you taste. I am very busy and don't have time to wash the glasses if you don't like. So he tasted and approved. I myself wanted to order the veal sausage and spaetzle and she told me No that will be too much for you to eat. You must share. So I shared with a friend who was dining with us. I am glad we did. There were 2 large veal sausages and a large helping of spaetzle. The spaetzle was sooo very good. I live in a Swiss Community and I have had very good spaetzle but this was even better. Everyone enjoyed their meals. She does not accept any credit cards so be sure to bring cash. Someone at our table had commented on how busy she was and although she likes the business she said she does not like being busy because she would rather have time to visit with her guests and find out more about where they came from. She was a genuinely warm lady (who seemed stern at first) but we were so happy that she was there for us. I highly recommend this place for dinner.

Just barely off the large square in town, the zur Linde offers a small outdoor (in good weather) area to eat and drink and a typical Swiss and Appenzell interior. Every Wednesday in the evening around 7 or so, a group of local folks come...in and socialize and sing older Appenzeller songs all a capella. Their voices are strong and sweet and it is a wonderful way to get a sense of the area and its hard-working people. The food is, by the way, some of the best Swiss fare you will find anywhere. Chicken with morels? Kalbsbratwurst with rosti? Spaetzli? Send me in, coach!
