This cafe is located right at the beginning of the famous staircase so you have the orchestra stalls so to speak Not withstanding dong that for such a prime location you get an aperol spritz for €5 accompanied by peanuts paprika crisps olives and salami The service is efficient and engaging

My wife and I used Bar Escaller as our base for drinks and snacks whilst in Caltagirone. So friendly, great Aperols, right at the base of the steps, it was very hot and the bar drew a lovely breeze. As an added bonus the local police, their office was opposite, came over to chat, highly recommended.

Situated right at the foot of the famous 142 steps, this is a classic Italian bar/cafe offering equally good coffee and food. Service was friendly and helpful and we stopped several times for aperitivi.

We have had gelato every day in Sicily. This place has excellent gelato and is in a prime location right at the base of the 142 steps of Santa Maria del Monte. It has outdoor seating and a free restroom. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a coffee or a quick breakfast in Caltagirone, this is the place to be. We were in town for around a week and this became a regular haunt for us. Join the seemingly endless stream of locals at the bar for a quick espresso, cappuccino or if like my wife, you're simply too British to contemplate drinking coffee a hot cup of tea. There's a great selection of pastries to choose from too. What's more the staff are very friendly and despite the crowds they are willing to entertain an Englishman's rather pathetic attempts to speak Italian. Recommended.
