Little Fat Lamb The Old One - FLUSHING

Came in a little after lunch, and they were still pretty crowded. They were doing something with beansprouts (afaik) on the table when we got in, and we sat down after waiting maybe two or three minutes for them to clear off the table. Clean and stylish restaurant. The menu had English and the waiters spoke English too. After we ordered food came pretty quick. The dishes were kind of expensive, and I noticed even parties of two ordered at least three dishes, but we went with two plus rice. The triple delight vegetable was delicious and a tad spicy. It went really well with rice. I liked it a bit more than the lamb chops which they're apparently known for (especially on food blogs). It was solid. It was crispy and a bit fatty, and didn't have the gamey taste lamb sometimes has. it was also a little spicy but not super flavorful. It wasn't really a standout though, and I wouldn't say it was worth the price.

Didn't know this place closed. I went here twice a good long while ago (well they have been closed. The first time the Muslim lamb chops were good but the second time I found the meat a bit tough. The rest of the dishes mixed from good to fine. Service I remember being a bit rude.

Alas, the only thing that I recommend are the fried fish...even then, I'd recommend peeling off the thick layers of breading before getting to the fish. Must get: fried fish Meh: muslin lamb chops, eggplant, soup Missed: I don't know I wanted to take my parents to a nice authentic Chinese restaurant when we were meeting up in Flushing, and after reading so many rave reviews about this muslin lamb, I knew that I had to come. Just to be clear, the muslin lamb is nothing spectacular, and the spices barely made much of an impact to the existing meat, which was a bit...odd tasting to me. My favorite was actually the fried fish, but even then, it was too breaded for my taste. The other smaller dishes, whether it's the cold apps (cucumber or clear rice noodles) or eggplant or chicken dishes were on par with local fares in your average Chinese takeout joints. With the amount of effort to get parking, yelp reviews, I think Fu Run Dong Bei just does not deliver. Food: 2 stars Price: 2 stars Service: 2 stars Ambiance: 2 stars

I always check this place when I'm in NYC area. They have a variety of Northern Chinese dishes, both spicy and not, that are great for family style. I've really enjoyed their cumin fish, their ma po tofu and the dishes that I have taken pictures of. There isn't a huge amount of seating but enough to fit a couple larger round tables and a bunch of smaller groups. The like the variety of flavors they come up with and the spicy dishes are hot but not so hot that it hurts. I will continue to give this place a try when I'm in town.

Ah, I do miss this place, the pork in a dark Peking sauce was great with the potato in vinegar. They've now been replaced with a rice noodle shop which isn't nearly as good. Inside used to be very simple, but the tables were always packed and we often waited to be seated. I do wonder if this is related to the Fu Run restaurant in Great Neck?
