A wonderful hostess, dishes off the menu depending on what she wants to eat. Everything is fresh and from their own farm. Moreover, the access road is breathtaking. Service: Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Parking options: Free parking lot, Free street parking
The best Greek home-cooked food I've ever had. Incomparable. You will only eat what is available, do not count on a fancy menu. It is possible to communicate in English, but it is better to talk to a translator. It's also possible in German. If you have a chance, come by!!! Only cash! Katharina is very hospitable and shares everything with you. We only came to have a drink, but we also got fresh cherries and delicious fresh cheese (sheep/goat). Highly recommended to stop by her! Service: Dine in Meal type: Other Price per person: €1–5
We stumbled across Katrina’s Tavern while trying to determine if we were in a village or not. She was sitting trimming long beans and waved us in. It was impossible to refuse. I’m not going to lie, at first I didn’t realize this was a restaurant. It seemed more like a grammas yard with a basket of fresh picked pears and miss matched card tables and chairs. She was almost insistent that we sit and I had no idea what we were in for. In very broken, but magnificent, English she started chatting us up. Katrina seemed like every matriarch from a Hollywood scene. Embracing the world and all that around her. She plunked two pears and an apple in front of me and handed me her paring knife. Then offered a Greek salad. How could I refuse? I have vowed to eat at least one every day of this journey. We generally eat a very light (or skip altogether) lunch. We watched her chose tomatoes from a nearby bin and slice them fresh. She arrived with two stunning salads, olives, feta and drizzled from a pitcher of olive oil, which she left on our table. She also offered two large pieces of a dense crusty irresistible bread. As we were eating her son appeared. He soon delivered four fried eggs. Dang, we were already getting full but these eggs had dark yorks and were swimming in more olive oil. I’m not an egg person but these were phenomenal. By now my belly was rolling over my pants but she insisted on a generous bowl of the thickest and tastiest yogurt I’ve ever eaten. Covered in her own honey from her hives in the mountain above. This experience was beyond words and her enthusiasm to communicate made the day magnificent. I wanted to hug her as I would my own gramma. When we left we found her place on trip advisor. And realized we were not alone. She touched the hearts and tummies of almost all who had visited. So if you are travelling through the mountains near Katharon (close to Kristas on Crete) I highly recommend a visit to Katrina’s. She is something else !!!
