What a little gem, the staff members are all dressed up in traditional gear, and the general atmosphere is positive. With sake bottles used as decoration and dodgy old Japanese drifting videos playing in the background, it all adds to the experience. But it is the platters of food that will make this your regular hang out, good food and inexpensive to boot. Add a shot of sake or two, some Japanese beer and you've got a good night out. They hand out soya beans to nibble on, and the more you eat the better they get. Narita is a definite must do for all diners on the North Shore.
3.5 Stars. My family love this place and have been visiting regularly for years. Personally, I think it's just okay. Six of us went recently for dinner, ordering various things. The menu is quite large and varied so there is something for everyone. I ordered the vegetarian set meal which was actually really large with many dishes. The teriyaki tofu was close to perfect probably the best I've had. The rest of the dishes were a little greasy though and I didn't feel very authentic. They have a fairly big selection of Japanese beers including on tap which is nice, as well as other Japanese alcohol.
Narita is a great little Japanese place to eat ! If you want authentic Japanese food then Narita is the place for you ! The vibe and overall food is great ! I've been here about 3 times in my life and man do I want to always go here. The price range in comparison to my student budget is a little on the pricey side but it is always worth it to go :D I suggest going as a group and experience the table where there's a hole to put your feet in, it's hard to explain but you'll understand once you see it ! It's always great to see a restaurant emerge in its culture and Narita as always held that ! And can I say their takoyaki is yummyyyy or it could be my obsession with takoyaki None the less, Narita you are true to yourself which shows in the awesome food you produce!! NIPPON BANZAIIIII
One of the best japanese restaurants on the North Shore. Super welcoming staff their green tea is really really yummy. The food always comes out super quickly and is always fresh and delicious. Try their other restaurant in Takapuna it's just as good!!!
This restaurant has been a personal favourite of mine for some time now, working in Wairau Valley for the past 10 or more years now, it is a convenient restaurant with a good range of options at affordable prices. On my most recent visit for my birthday back in July, I went with my girlfriend, she ordering the Salmon Nabe, I ordered the Beef Yakiniku set. Both were served in a respectable time can't really say about the food being hot/cold in this instance since Yakiniku is traditionally cooked by the person eating it, while Nabe has a flame underneath the dish keeping the food hot the entire time. We both enjoyed our meal immensely and found the Green Tea ice cream we were served at the end of the meal very pleasant. If you are looking for a restaurant with an enjoyable atmosphere, friendly and pleasant staff and food at a reasonable price, I would strongly recommend giving Narita a try. Expect to pay around $60 70 for meals and one or two drinks for two people.
