Fred's is in the middle of nowhere and was recommended by friends. We have been there twice now and had great steaks, pizza and sandwiches both times. Owner is super friendly and we love the quirky old west atmosphere! You can wonder around and look at the animals too, longhorn steer, horses, etc. There is a really neat stagecoach in the bar that Fred built himself. Steaks are grilled in the middle of the restaurant over a open wood fire and we love the flavor and they were done to perfection! Will definitely be going back.
Local favorite with room for large groups to eat and dance. Pizza was okay but thin crusted. I had to eat it with a fork. Hamburger was good as well as the onion rings and ice cream was yummy.
My snowbird friends learned of this place and brought me out for pizza and a bucket of beers. This place is divey, kitschy and full of history as it's been around since the mid seventies. Seems to have had a rodeo past and there's stage coaches, covered wagons and a grill right in the center of the room that serves as the chuckwagon I guess. The pizza was thin crust and ok, the beers were cold, the service was slow but the company was good.
We had heard about this out of the way place years ago and that their steaks were fabulous. So on our way back from Puerto Peñasco MX we figured it was the perfect time to try it. The place certainly looks intriguing once you get there on a little dirt road, and the mesquite aroma makes you even hungrier for great. We ordered the small sirloin and the NY Strip, and substituted the potato for some very yummy onion rings. The steaks were certainly good, but not something that would make us return for. My martini came in a stubby juice-like glass, and tasted more like a slightly gin flavored glass of vermouth. Husbands a Manhattan was well made, however. Bottom line is that it was a “different” setting, a good place to go if you’re around those parts. If I ever go again, I’d likely try the sausage steak.
